ServiceLocal Philanthropy Helping out the Seniors: During the past several springs we have visited a small senior home and helped spruce up their property, cleaning up the gardens and planting some flowers. As this has become an annual service project, we are planning to visit again this spring to do some more spring cleanup and planting. Toys for Tots: Every year during our December meeting our chapter members bring new, unwrapped toys to donate to the "Toys for Tots" program. Save Lids to Save Lives: In the fall of 2009, our chapter collected 616 Yoplait yogurt lids that were specially marked "Save Lids to Save Lives", which was an increase from our chapter's 2008 collection of 584 lids. For every lid that Yoplait receives from ZTA, Yoplait will donate 10 cents to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, up to $30,000 (300,000 lids). In addition, Yoplait will donate 5 cents to the ZTA Foundation. During the Fall 2009 collection program, ZTA chapters collected 346,618 lids, resulting in a Yoplait donation of $15,000 to the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation and $30,000 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Thanks to the outstanding efforts of Zetas across the country, we have shown that together we can make a difference! National Philanthropy Breast Cancer Education and Awareness: In 1992, Zeta Tau Alpha adopted The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation as the Fraternity's national philanthropy. At the 1996 International Convention, the Fraternity voted to increase ZTA's support of breast cancer awareness by backing all organizations committed to breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment. |
