ServiceNational Philanthropy Breast Cancer Education and Awareness: In 1992, Zeta Tau Alpha adopted The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation as the Fraternity's national philanthropy. At the 1996 International Convention, the Fraternity voted to increase ZTA's support of breast cancer awareness by backing all organizations committed to breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment. Save Lids to Save Lives: In the fall of 2011, our chapter collected 1580 Yoplait yogurt lids that were specially marked "Save Lids to Save Lives", a considerable increase from our chapter's 2010 count of 616 lids. For every lid that Yopliat receives from ZTA, Yoplait will donate 10 cents to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, up to $30,000 (300,000 lids). In addition, Yoplait will donate 5 cents to the ZTA Foundation. During the Fall 2010 collection program, ZTA chapters achieved ZTA's national goal, collecting over 350,000 lids, which resulted in a Yoplait donation of $15,000 to the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation and $30,000 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Thanks to the outstanding efforts of Zetas across the country, we have shown that together we can make a difference!Local Philanthropy Helping out the Seniors:
During the past several springs we have visited a small senior home and helped spruce up their property, cleaning up the gardens and planting some flowers. As this has become an annual service project, we are planning to visit again this spring to do some more spring cleanup and planting.
Toys for Tots:
Every year during our December meeting our chapter members bring new, unwrapped toys to donate to the "Toys for Tots" program.
Project Linus:
We make and donate fleece blankets in support of Project Linus, a non-profit organization that provides love, a sense of security, warmth, and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer "blanketeers." Komen Events Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure: Every year during the first weekend in August, our chapter organizes a cheering station for the 3-Day Walk. We gather Zetas, family, and friends from the entire Chicagoland area on both Saturday and Sunday. We show our ZTA spirit by cheering on the walkers as they strive to complete 60 miles.Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure: Many of our chapter members volunteer during the Race for the Cure in Lombard at Yorktown Center on the last Sunday in September. We help in the Survivors' Tent, we hand out roses to the survivors as they cross the finish line, and we assist wherever needed. |
